The Helena Youth Orchestra is preparing for the 2018-2019 season with a few adjustments to our new ensembles. Rehearsal times are still under consideration per conversations at our annual membership meeting, but this represents our current plans.

Full Orchestra – 3:30-4:30 pm, Fridays in the C.R. Anderson Middle School Orchestra Room

The Full Orchestra continues to be our anchor ensemble. It is open to students of all ages and ability levels as long as they are willing to practice and attend rehearsals. The time has been adjusted slightly to allow high school students access to the majority of each rehearsal.

This ensemble will play repertoire for string orchestra, but it will also explore symphonic orchestral works that include winds, percussion, and even choir.

Camerata Orchestra – 4:30-5:30 pm, Fridays in the C.R. Anderson Middle School Orchestra Room

With more students staying involved in HYO past middle school (many of they with extensive playing experience), there has become a need to provide additional challenges at the high school level. This ensemble is open to all high school students who would like an extra challenge, and is open by audition only to younger players. The rehearsal time elides with Full Orchestra so students can continue to be involved as mentors to their younger aged peers.

This ensemble will play advanced repertoire for string orchestra and other chamber music by established composers.
